3D Host management has decided to cease all hosting operations from this day forward. We are no longer accepting any new orders and will no longer be offering hosting in the future. Our customers were informed about this one month in advance so we could assist them in finding a new host that would meet their needs. Refunds were given to customers when needed.

This decision was not made lightly. We first started hosting back in 1998 under the name Stuff-X, which later evolved into 3D Host in early 2002. During that time, however, the hosting industry has changed drastically. The time involvement and increasing competition were two main reasons why we decided to shut 3D Host down.

Our three servers were shut off on September 30, 2004. The 3dhost.net domain name will remain in place for historical purposes. This will also allow us to redirect subdomain accounts to their new sites and forward their old e-mail addresses to new ones.

We are honored to have been a hosting provider for so many years, but it is time for us to pass the hosting torch onto others. Thank you for your understanding.

Several improvements have been made recently. First, we have increased the disk space on all of our hosting plans. Current customers will be upgraded free of charge. Second, we have implemented Denial of Service (DoS) attack protection on our Web/OP server. Third, we have updated our Network page and the way that we are notified if/when one of our servers goes offline.

We have several announcements to make today. First of all, we have consolidated our two ActiveWorlds bot and world servers at our main facility into one server to cut costs and are passing the savings onto you, the customer.

Also, our Web hosting/object path plans have been renamed to Bronze, Silver, and Gold (instead of Plan A, B and C). Some of them have been reduced in price and the amount of disk space included with them has been raised. All current customers will be upgraded to the new plans free of charge.

In addition, we have partnered with another ActiveWorlds host to cater to world hosting customers that have larger and more busy worlds. This will allow us to expand in the future and continue to provide you with a fast and smooth hosting experience.

Finally, we've changed the header graphic at the top of the site to give it a more humanistic feel and updated several pages on the site to reflect the changes mentioned above.

You may experience some slowdown, lag or other interruptions during the next week or so due to the MyDoom viruses, which have launched distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks against the SCO and Microsoft Web sites. Rerouting of data is to be expected. Go to News.com for more information. To see a global "traffic report" of the Internet, go here or here.

The world server was down for a few hours yesterday for general hardware maintenance (cleaning out fans, dusting the inside of the case, power cycling, etc). No other servers were affected. Also, there is a new e-mail virus out in the wild that may cause excess delays and trouble with delivering and receiving e-mail. Now would be a good time to update your anti-virus definitions. You can read more about this at News.com.

The world server was down today from 10:14 AM ET to 11:30 AM ET for general maintenance (disk integrity check, disk defragmentation, clearing of temp files, etc). The bot and Web server weren't affected and remained online.

We are happy to report that tropical storm Isabel has barely affected us. The Web/OP server was fine since it resides in Texas. However, our AW bot and world servers located in Pennsylvania experienced connection problems for a few hours during early morning today and some peering issues occurred yesterday.

A few power fluctuations were experienced, but all equipment stayed on during the storm and is working properly. Nevertheless, rerouting of data and latency issues may occur since the storm has brought down power lines (which also hold communication lines) in many areas and in various states.
